Steps To Become a Truck Driver in NJ

Step 1: Basic Requirements

• Be a US Citizen or a non-US Citizen with lawful permanent resident status
• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a basic, New Jersey driver’s license (class D)
• All CLP/CDL drivers must complete the CDL Holder Self-Certification document, and if applicable, submit a valid medical examiner certificate

Step 2: Get a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)

• Passing a written knowledge test
• Submitting required documentation (e.g., ID, proof of residency)
• Meeting vision and medical standards

Step 3: Complete a CDL Training Program

• Enroll in our CDL training program. Programs include:
• Classroom instruction on safety, regulations, and vehicle maintenance
• Hands-on practice behind the wheel
• Preparation for your final road skills test
